Over 400 Agilists from those new to the Agile journey to renowned experts and representing small and large enterprises in government and corporate arenas, attended the second Agile Australia conference in Melbourne last week.
Alan Airth receiving his Agile Academy Prize
The Agile Academy booth again proved popular with delegates crowding the stand to talk with Agile Academy staff and trainers during the breaks in the conference schedule. This year, our expanding course offerings and to meet an increasing growing appetite for Agile training in Western Australia seemed to be on everyone's lips.
A prize of a 2 day Agile Academy course on each day of the conference also attracted many people to the booth to ask about the course they might win.
The conference kicked off with a keynote presentation by Jim Highsmith. Jim is one of the original authors of the Agile Manifesto and is a recognised leader in the Agile Project Management and Agile Software Development movements. He spoke on how Agile teams are asked to be flexible and adaptive but then are told to conform to planned scope, schedule, and cost goals. While acknowledging the importance of these constraints, he shared what he believed were a set of metrics needed to measure Agile performance accurately.
Jeff Smith talking to delegates
Jeff Smith, CEO Suncorp Business Services at Suncorp followed, speaking on the conference theme of “Delivering business value through Agile”. Jeff is a recognised leader in the Agile space and his passion for Agile was evident.
His point that a successful Agile transformation relies on building a culture of trust, respect and collaboration in your teams, resonated with many in the audience.
