Atlassian is an Australian software company that is known worldwide for its software development and collaboration tools, particularly JIRA, GreenHopper and Confluence. At their recently held annual Atlassian Summit conference in San Francisco, which focussed on delegates sharing their stories, case studies, best practices and product updates, Craig Smith, an Agile Coach with Suncorp was invited to present a talk entitled “Kaizen with GreenHopper : Visualising Agile and Kanban Storywalls”.
Suncorp is a recognised leader in using Agile and have actively adopted approaches like Kanban using a mix of tools coupled with a focus on continuous improvement (or Kaizen as it is called in Japanese) to ensure delivery of business value. Craig shared his experiences learned from working in and coaching real-world software development teams around these practices and included how the organisation configures and uses JIRA and GreenHopper to manage their agile projects.
Other interesting topics at the conference included an overview of how NASA used a Confluence wiki to build the Ares I rocket, how Atlassian deal with monster continuous integration builds and companies such as PBS and Vision Solutions sharing insights from their own agile implementations. There were also a number of tutorials and best practices for utilising and configuring various Atlassian tools, as well as product and future vision announcements. All of the videos and presentations from Atlassian Summit can be viewed at the Atlassian Summit website.
